I started this blog in January 2015, and I can’t believe it has been 10 years!

The idea to start the blog came after we got burgled. We lost many valuables in that incident, but the most precious was my laptop, containing 10 years worth of photos. All of a sudden, all I had to show for 10 years worth of memories were photos I had uploaded to social media, and my handwritten journals from my travels. This got me thinking. Why not start a blog to keep a record of my travels, photos and notes both? So, the Diary of a Tourist was born. (If you would like to know more about me and the background to the blog, take a look here).

I’ve travelled to 38 countries (28 new, 10 repeat visits) since I started the blog, and in celebration of the 10th birthday, I thought it would be nice to do a trip down memory lane:
The first post
This one about Wookey Hole Caves. My writing style was very different then – and the camera was nowhere near as good.

My favourite post
This is a tricky one. My favourite posts are those I like to read and re-read, as they bring back so many great memories. In no particular order, I think they are:
- Day at Lake Louise in Canada
- Miyajima Island in Japan
- Abu Simbel and Agatha Christie High Tea in Egypt
- Isle of Harris Scotland
- Iguazu falls (from Argentina)
- Across the Altiplano with PeruRail Titicaca
- Wadi Rum in Jordan
- Impressions – Liu San Jie in China

The post I would most like to rewrite
This one about 96 hours in Switzerland. I was an inexperienced blogger and decided to squeeze in 4 days worth of details to one post. Took me weeks to write it, and it is a very long read.

A slightly different style of post
This one about my trip around the US West Coast. I took the trip with my parents and sister and I wrote a series of emails to my husband back home during the trip. So the post is written in the style of an email.
The most popular post (by traffic)
For many years, it used to be this one about Kamloops to Jasper, but since last year it is this one about a Day in Sintra and What I would do differently if (and when) I go back to Peru.

What’ coming up?
Well, my latest adventure has been to (drumroll please!), Morocco. I went on a 8 day Highlights of Morocco tour with Explore in late January. So watch out for the posts coming up in the coming weeks.

If there is anything you would like to know about the blog, please leave a question below.
Congratulation on 10 years! So many bloggers disappear long before then. Looking forward to reading about Morocco!
